Here is a short biography of Michael Frazier, Oregon Singer Songwriter. I have been a songwriter, lyricist and musician for 30 years and have produced a number of CD recordings of my original songs. You can listen to songs from the Recordings page. All song lyrics are available here, as well. My primary instument is acoustic guitar. I also play flute, occasional harp, keyboards, xylophone and percussion instuments. I have perfomed as a solo singer songwriter as well as a band member with several groups over the past 30 years. Current ventures include custom songwriting for hire and regular visits to the Root Cellar Studio for recording songs for CD projects.

I grew up in the Willamette Valley in McMinnville, Oregon in the 1950's. I loved both story writing and music at an early age and eventually met the acoustic guitar. That's when things came together and brought out the songwriter in me. I began composing my own original acoustic guitar songs. See Musical History - Beginnings for more info.

For me, songwriting really grew from a need to capture my own thoughts and feelings about whatever happened to be going on around me at a given time. When I started performing I began to realize the importance of making that perspective available for others. Balancing emotions and logic, I seek to write songs that open some of the daily life windows we occasionally think about, yet leave unopened. The idea is for others to be able to relate to the thoughts and ultimately appreciate and enjoy my songwriting. I have found a good number of people who feel this way. I always hope to find more.

As a songwriter, I draw from my environment and experiences for ideas. Often I'll start with an idea on acoustic guitar and allow the feeling of the music to steer me in the direction of the lyrics. With other pieces, I already know what I want to say and the work is in developing the guitar parts for lyrical support. You will find styles from acoustic folkish, to Solid Rock & Pop Rock and occasional offstyle country flavors. I have also been known to write touching songs for weddings & funerals, humorous lyrics for retirement gatherings and a number of crossovers for other special events, including Birthdays, High School Graduations and even Baby Showers. Being a regular working guy and family man over the years, music has always been a passenger in my life though one that owns part of me and will always be there. I have been fortunate over the years to meet many other musicians that were willing and able to make positive contributions to my songwriting and for that I am eternally grateful. This web site has been developed to honor their contributions as well as to promote my songwriting. My personal hope is that you will appreciate both.
