SONG LYRICS
Listen to this song from Oregon Songwriter, Michael Frazier -

WHY AREN'T I

I'd like to take a moment or two of your time
and share a few thoughts running round and round in my mind
You know I'll be leaving when this last day is through
and I thought I should say how often I was thankful for you

My chosen profession of 38 short years
love, laughter and friendship with a sprinkling of tears
the days and the weeks always turning to years
and then into decades I'll always hold dear

When I was a young girl there was no Habits of the Mind
social graces and charm school weren't a part of my life
so if I offended or shocked you at times
there was no ill intent and I apologize

and I ask your forgiveness for my singing so bad
at the April Fool's Day treats that we had
Still one thing is certain, each day it rings true
deep in my heart, I thank each and everyone of you

There's always new programs, no choice to oppose
the theme of the day is the SLO's
so we learn what we must and we do all we can
to give each of our students the best learning plan

Some words of advice for each of you I'm leaving behind
remember to laugh, savor each moment you find
Take care of yourselves like the students you teach
the challenges brighten the fulfillment you reach
and find your own answer to the question inside
the kids are always the same age, why aren't I

It's time to be free now, time to move on
thanks for the memories, may your dreams all live on
Goodbye Sunnycrest, my home for so long
I've always known this is where I've belonged
Maybe I'll find the answer to this question of mine
the kids are always the same age, why aren't I
