BEYOND MY MEASURES

Sacrifices must be made
but nothing like the price I paid the first time
I'd rather be alone again
than losing such a gentle friend when I'm blind

But I've seen more in the past year
than I've seen in years gone by
and I find myself just laughing in my face
I've felt some pain but I'm grateful
for the knowledge I have gained
and the living that has brought me to this place

Open eyes, open heart
living life beyond my measures
and I'm making a new start with you

Had a vision long ago
gazing out at the moonlit snow in wonder
I entered back into the world
the lightning struck and then I heard the thunder

But the wheel of life is turning
and you can't stand still you know
You can't hold on you've got to let it go
Yet freedom comes so easily
like rainfall from a stream
I wake to find I'm flowing through this dream

Sacrifices I have made
karmic dues that must be paid in this life
The dharma's easier to bear
with someone close who knows I care she's my wife

And I'll give all that I'm able
from my heart and from my soul
but the promise of forever I cant make
I've got to keep on playing this old guitar of mine
It's the only part of me no one can take
