THAT OLD OAK TREE

That old oak tree has seen a century
of changing times, changing skys
I'm sitting here in my easy chair
enjoy the shade that it provides

And I marvel at the grand design
What a pleasant way to pass my time
Sun shining bright, I could stay here all night
Find a little peace of mind

I wonder what stories that old tree could tell
About this great valley of green
It must have some wisdom to pass on along
from all of the sights that it has seen

Standing so high above the ground
I'm sure it saw the settling of town
And the first white man's skin, maybe even my kin
Standing here without a sound

It's a wonder to me it's still standing you see
It could have been cut for firewood
or the planks for a floor an old porch or a door
and then it would have been gone for good

But it's still here today next to me
A wonder of nature I believe
And the leaves that have fallen
must be a million or so
Goodbye old friend, it's time for me to go
