STRAIGHT FROM
THE HEART
I stopped at the
mall along my way
to do some shopping for the holiday
and I realized, it just ain't my thing
So I took myself home, sat myself down
with my guitar and a mirror pond
and I wrote this song for my friends and my family
I don't need no
stuff from China or Japan
don't need no stuff from North Korea or Viet Nam
I got stuff to last a lifetime in the attic all boxed up
All I want this Christmas is your love
Commercialized
and supersized
all hyped up in overdrive
It's all about the dollars and it makes no sense
No spirit here it took it's leave
searching for someone to believe in miracles
without pretense
Don't need no
decorations to put upon my shelf
don't need no gifts from Santa Claus
made by his overseas elves
Don't need to pin upon my wall your holiday greeting card
I'm just looking for a Christmas gift
straight from your heart, straight from the heart
Well I've got
to admit I'm guilty of it
putting good money where the sun don't split my shades
but I'm done doing that, they can take it all back
With no regrets from me
I don't want to feel the rain on my parade
All I want this
Christmas is a big hug and a smile
that's what makes this life I'm living feel so worthwhile
We can make it so without a shopping cart
Straight from you to me, straight from me to you
straight from the heart
So I left the
mall with nothing
not a single gift to give
no pretty papered packages with bows
All I got for you this year
is this simple song
It's the only way I could think of to let you know
That I carry you
inside me everyday
send messages that I hope will help to light your way
It's a well known fact that someday we will part
so I thought I ought to tell you that I love you
straight from the heart
